Can I transfer my domain name to a different central registry?

Transferring a .com, .net or .org domain to another registry?

If you are transferring a .com, .net or .org domain to another registry you will first need to submit a request to change the admin, billing and technical contacts for the domain. This has to be done with Network Solutions (the current registry that holds the central records for your domain).

Here are some instructions to enable this:

You will need to complete the correct form on the Network Solutions web site - this can be found here.

On the form you will be asked for an email address (this must be YOUR email address) and the domain name.

On the next screen you will need to change the admin, billing and technical handles (plus DNS servers if you wish) - if you or your ISP has Network Solutions NIC handles already (and most should have) enter them in the 3 boxes present - alternatively you can select the button next to "or, provide contact information" then enter the correct contact details further down the page.

Once you have submitted the form it will be processed and a copy sent to the email address you specified. When you receive this you need to check the details are correct, follow the instructions on the email to return it to Network Solutions.

When they receive it they will then send you another email saying that they could not process the changes (yet) as they need to have it authorised by the current admin contacts (us) - but they will issue you with a NIC tracking number (something like [NIC-000123123.0abc]). Please note that their systems can be very busy and it can sometimes take up to a few hours to receive these emails!

Then you need to get this faxed across to us (0870 137 22 21)
Please note it must:

• Be on the current registrant letterhead paper
• Be signed by an authorised signatory
• Contain their email, telephone and fax contact details

The fax needs to say:

	We are the current registered owners of the domain name(s): [enter the domain name] We would like to transfer this domain name to a new ISP. You will shortly receive a request from Network Solutions on tracking number [enter NIC tracking number] with the required changes. We hereby authorise you to accept the changes detailed on that request. If you have any questions about this request please contact us at [enter your email address] or call us on [enter your telephone number].

If you are unable to fax it, you will need to send it via post (see here for our address) again on the company letterhead paper of the domain owner.

Once we receive that we will check and (if correct) authorise the changes. You will then receive confirmation from Network Solutions and then you will be able to co-ordinate the transfer to another registry as required.

Please note it is our policy not to transfer a domain name away from our servers while there is any payment due on your account.
